Social Responsibility & Community Health Main Content

Our commitment

As the only community-owned, locally governed, not-for-profit health system in Northeast Florida, building a happier, healthier community is our reason for being.

While we provide comprehensive care to patients within our walls, our Department of Social Responsibility and Community Impact leads strategic partnerships, programs and investments that care for the entire community. This is our social responsibility.

To ensure a higher quality of life is attainable for everyone, we focus on three strategic priorities:

Determining needs in our community

At Baptist Health, we hold ourselves accountable for making measurable improvements in the health and well-being of our community.

Every three years, we connect with local health systems to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment. This assessment helps us identify the current health needs of our residents through surveys, focus groups and interviews discussing top health concerns.

While Baptist Health serves across all areas of need, this assessment helps us determine the most pressing and persisting needs so we can develop intentional and innovative solutions. The 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment identified four areas of priority:

  • Access to care
  • Maternal and child health
  • Mental Health
  • Social determinants of health (the everyday conditions we live and work)

Meeting needs in our community

No organization can meet all the health needs of a community alone. That’s why we collaborate with nearly 100 community and faith-based organizations each year to create and offer community-based solutions that work.

In addition to fostering community partnerships, we also provide financial support to support organizations in delivering difference-making programming and resources to the community.

Two recent strategic investments we are proud to support are:

  • mother and son running together on a wooded trail outside

    The Emerald Trail’s LaVilla Link

Baptist made a significant strategic investment in the Emerald Trail, a 30-mile walking and biking path that will link 14 historic neighborhoods to downtown, Hogans Creek, McCoys Creek and the St. Johns River. Our investment is specifically in the 1.3 mile "link" located in LaVilla.

  • home health professional with elderly female patient

    Blue Zones Project Jacksonville

Blue Zones Project in Jacksonville is a multi-year collaborative effort that involves the entire community working together toward one common goal – to support and build a culture of community health and well-being.

Investing in our next generation

Access to quality education and employment opportunities is one of the determining factors of the health of a community. With health care as one of the fastest growing career fields in the country, we offer programs that expose youth to careers in health care and provide mentorship, hands-on experiences and skill-building learning opportunities that foster lifelong career success.
