Jacksonville, FL.
Baptist Primary Care physician Diana Twiggs, MD, FAAFP, was recently named “Family Physician of the Year” for 2023 by the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP).
The award, presented by the Florida chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), recognizes outstanding family physicians for maintaining high-quality standards for family medicine. It also acknowledges their compassion, professional dedication, outstanding service to their patients, commitment to public service and participation in activities to enhance the lives of those in the community.
Dr. Twiggs has practiced family medicine in Fernandina Beach for the past 23 years and has been a Baptist Primary Care physician since 2010. Active within the community, she has held several leadership positions within professional organizations over the years, including serving on the board of Baptist Primary Care and the Florida Medical Association as well as president and a board member of FAFP.
Her commitment to caring for others also extends beyond the local community. She has volunteered for several humanitarian missions to Poland and Ukraine to help care for Ukrainians displaced during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
“We wholeheartedly congratulate Dr. Twiggs on this well-deserved honor,” said Kenneth Mayer, MD, chief medical officer of Baptist Primary Care. “We’re pleased that her dedication to her patients, colleagues and community has been recognized; she is an exemplary member of the Baptist Health family.” She attended medical school at the University of Florida in Gainesville and completed her residency at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
As a reflection of her commitment to ongoing professional development, Dr. Twiggs plans to leverage her experience in family medicine to embark on a new role in emergency medicine at Baptist Medical Center Nassau in February 2024.
