Job Summary

The Maternal Newborn Service Line Director will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across Baptist Health to advance the growth of the maternal newborn service line.  This leader will serve as a key resource to physician and nursing leadership, hospital administration, practice administration and department operators working to identify opportunities for growth, create and implement a strategic plan consistent with the system strategic objectives.

 

The incoming Maternal Newborn Service Line director will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Clinical Service Lines and Ambulatory Business Development, joining the newly established team of service line leaders commissioned to,

  • advance an enterprise-wide approach to service line development,
  • achieve measurable benefits to the organization, primarily the growth of prioritized service lines,
  • drive growth which is differentiating, in alignment with excellent clinical outcomes, enabling Baptist Health to better serve more members of our community and the greater region.


The role encompasses strategic planning, relationship development, business analysis, project management, participation in budget planning (capital and operational), understanding of compliance and regulatory factors and performance improvement.

 

 A key function of this role is acting as a key service line point of contact with physician leaders fostering strong physician relationships; ensuring physician opinion, guidance and interests are at the core of the strategic plan and continuously inform strategic planning and implementation.

 

A sound understanding of maternal newborn subject matter and hospital-based procedures and testing is necessary. The ability to design and align resources to support the service line initiatives, program development, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external referral sources are keys to success.

 

JOB DETAILS

The service line director will have shared accountability with operational and clinical counterparts, but no operational authority, in the areas of,

  • Quality measures
  • Service (patient and consumer experience) as measured from CAHPS surveys and net promoter scores
  • Growth rate of service line as measured by volume, revenue, new patients and Share of Care capture
  • Stewardship as measured by improving margin and cost per unit of service

 

The service line director will act as a key advisor to operational counterparts and executive decision makers in the areas of,

  • Capital investment
  • Facilities
  • Process management
  • Reimbursement and payer strategy
  • Compliance and regulatory matters
  • Information technology (platform, integration, work flow)

 

The service line director will have direct accountability for,

  • Five year strategic and annual business plans
  • New program development
  • Marketing plan
  • Physician relationships (excluding contractual)

Responsibilities
Provider Alignment and Engagement
+ Partner with physicians, promoting a team approach to strategic planning and the development and implementation of a world class, comprehensive maternal-newborn program.

+Ensure effective physician partnerships internally and externally and assist in the negotiation of physician collaborative (non-contractual) agreements.

 

Stakeholder Alignment and Engagement

+ Collaborate and create partnerships across health system to ensure business strategies, goals, and objectives are met.

Strategic Planning and Implementation

+In collaboration with all stakeholders, draft and implement the five year service line strategy and associated business plan(s), focusing on growth, contribution margin, costs, clinical quality, technology, service quality, and physician alignment.

+ Coordinate system wide the strategy and planning for maternal-newborn related services and develop integrated programs for the system.

+ Articulate the service line vision. 
+ Design, develop and implement business plans to meet organizational strategic pillar metrics including financial, employee and physician engagement, quality metrics and performance improvement initiatives as well as patient experience.
+ Maintain knowledge of best practices across the industry, monitor evolution of technology, and continuously evaluate emerging opportunities and threats within the market.

Program Development and Delivery

+ Create a seamless, highly responsive maternal newborn service line where the focus is on outstanding quality outcomes and the highest level of services to all customers/constituencies.
+ Demonstrate accountability for service line financial performance.

+ Develop and implement new programs, in collaboration with other health system leadership and physician partners, to accomplish the objectives of the business plans.

+ Act upon opportunities to further expand capabilities, improve the overall quality and improve the overall coordination.

+ Assist in driving the system-wide effort to increase aggregate volumes and related procedures and increase market share in its primary and secondary market in a cost effective and profitable manner.

+ Maintain knowledge of and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies procedures and standards.

 

Success Factors:

  • High-level interaction physician leaders; nursing, hospital and practice administration
  • Ability to use financial tools (budgets, forecasts, and ROI analysis) to measure, manage and communicate business performance to physician and leadership constituents.
  • Strong fiscal acumen demonstrated by development of business plans and return on investment (ROI) analysis reflecting capital acquisition planning.
  • Familiarity with national quality measures for the service line and related regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of data systems, evidence based medicine principles and performance metrics.

 

  • Ability to establish collaborative and productive working relationships with physicians, clinical and administrative leadership.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations through change.
  • Demonstrated ability to use process improvement techniques to achieve operational results.
  • Effective communication skills to encourage open discussion and orchestrate win-win solutions.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Nursing required;
  • Master’s Degree in healthcare management, nursing or business-related field preferred.
  • Three years’ leadership experience in healthcare field, understanding of hospital and ambulatory practice operations.
  • Self-sufficient in project development management and delivery.
  • Results-oriented work philosophy. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, organize and integrate organization priorities and deadlines, and meet goals.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sound financial acumen with ability to create forecasts and pro formas
  • Data management expertise with ability to synthesize data and develop department key reports
  • Three or more years in the maternal-newborn/women and children’s field(s).
