Coronavirus: Baptist Health sets up Campaign for Caregivers

Baptist Health Foundation coordinating offers of help from the community

Jacksonville, FL

Like all hospitals during this outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Baptist Health is preparing for a shortage of medical supplies, including personal protective equipment (PPE). This is an unprecedented and unpredictable crisis, and we are pursuing different avenues to bolster and conserve our supplies so that we can meet the critical need for PPE and support our frontline staff.

Community members in North Florida have an opportunity to support Baptist Health team members as they continue to provide excellent care through this crisis. The Foundation is accepting critical donations of PPE goods as well as monetary donations.

For up-to-date details about donated goods needed or to make a cash gift, please visit: Compassion for Caregivers.

Community Members and Companies with access to PPE that would like to donate: While all donations of essential PPE, in any amount, are welcomed and encouraged, Baptist Health is exceptionally thankful for donations of unopened and unexpired:

  • Clorox bleach wipes (or equivalent)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Face shields
  • Goggles
  • N95s (or any equivalent CDC- approved masks)
  • Non-contact thermometers
  • Masks (surgical/procedural)
  • Isolation gowns
  • Disposable coveralls/painter’s suits
  • Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR)
  • Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR)
  • Other approved PPE supplies advised by the CDC

Please email Laura Collins at laura.collins@bmcjax.com to donate PPE materials.

Official PPE Supplies (from medical and dental offices, manufacturing etc.) may be dropped off at Baptist Health System's San Marco East Plaza office at 3563 Philips Hwy, Jacksonville, FL 32207, on the I-95 side building. If you have delivery questions, please call Courtney Alvarez at 904.429.2932.

Hand-Sewn Personal Protective Equipment:
The Baptist Health Foundation is also accepting hand-sewn isolation gowns and face masks, and our prediction is that gowns will be our first need. Please use 100% cotton fabric that can be laundered and bleached.

Patterns and instructions for isolation gowns we will need can be found online at:

Compassion for Caregivers.

Two sizes of the face masks will be needed:

  • Adult 9"x 6"
  • Child 7.5" x 5.5"

Patterns and instructions for making facemasks can be found online at: Compassion for Caregivers.

Completed gowns and masks may be dropped off at the Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville parking garage P5, located at 1350 Flagler Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Drop offs are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9-11 am.

Monetary donations to the Baptist Health Foundation will support:
Baptist Team Member Care Fund: created by Baptist team members and distributed to team members who have experienced an emergency that results in a financial need. The Team Member Care Fund is administered by JFCS, and they stand ready to receive additional calls, as we anticipate that many of our employees will face unexpected financial hardship through the COVID-19 crisis.

Baptist Staff Appreciation Fund: The Baptist Health Foundation has created a fund to bolster the spirits and to address the needs of caregivers impacted by COVID-19, and to support emerging areas of greatest need.

Medical Director or President's Fund:
A gift to support one of these funds allows hospital leadership to respond deftly to challenges as they arise. These unrestricted gifts provide broad and flexible support for the hospital system and the areas of greatest need — which is especially important with the rapid pace of changes during this volatile public health situation.
