Adam Polifka, MD, is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. After attending medical school at the University of Vermont, he completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Maryland, followed by a fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to joining Lyerly, Dr. Polifka was an associate professor of neurosurgery at the University of Florida for 8 years. Dr. Polifka advocates for the very best in patient care not only in the operating room but also within the neurosurgical community and is seen as a leader and innovator among his peers. About Me

My philosophy of care is that every patient is a person first and the surgical case is something we address second, and together. In order to have a positive outcome we need to understand the issue's cause and what changes can be made both in lifestyle and in surgical practice to improve the overall outcome of the procedure and the patient's quality of life moving forward.

Many of my patients come to me with complicated cases and without a sense of hope. Together, the patient and I discuss their needs, the options and realistic approaches to those needs and decide on their course of care, often incorporating cutting-edge innovations and minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible.

Growing up in a small town in Vermont, a sense of community has always been at the forefront of my day to day. I enjoy being active and my number one goal for my patients is for their lives to be full of activity too.
