Sumit Isharwal, MD

Sumit Isharwal, MD, is a board-certified urologic surgeon who specializes in caring for people with cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney and testicles. His expertise includes robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgeries as well as open surgeries. Dr. Isharwal has a special focus on transperineal prostate biopsy, MRI fusion prostate biopsy and nerve-sparing robotic radical prostatectomy. Prior to joining Baptist MD Anderson, Dr. Isharwal worked for six years at the University of Virginia and had a busy urologic oncology-focused clinical practice. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, serves on the editorial board of several prominent journals and has presented his work in national and international meetings. Dr. Isharwal's philosophy of care is to listen to his patients, provide them with relevant information about their disease, discuss all the treatment options and guide them to make a treatment plan based upon their preferences. Prior to moving to Jacksonville, I spent the past six years working at the University of Virginia. I’m looking forward to Florida’s year-round warm weather! In our spare time, my wife and I enjoy trying new restaurants, traveling, and outdoor activities.
